5-Nitrosalicylic acid (CAS 96-97-9), also known as 2-hydroxy-5-nitrobenzoic acid, is a light yellow to yellow crystalline solid or powder used primarily as a key pharmaceutical intermediate—most notably in the synthesis of Mesalamine (5-aminosalicylic acid), an anti-inflammatory drug used to treat colitis.
