Description and applications
Acetyl chloride is an organic compound. It is a colorless, volatile liquid with a pungent, suffocating odor. Acetyl chloride is an acyl chloride used primarily as a reagent in organic synthesis. It reacts with alcohols to form esters and with amines to form amides. Its applications include the production of acetylated compounds, pharmaceuticals, and in the manufacture of dyes and fragrances. Acetyl chloride is also used in the production of acetic anhydride and other chemicals. Due to its reactivity with water and its corrosive nature, it must be handled with care and stored properly.
