Isobutyl chloroformate (IBCF) is a colorless to light-colored, pungent-smelling liquid primarily used in organic synthesis as an amine-protecting reagent and an activating group for carboxylic acids. It is widely used to form mixed anhydrides in peptide coupling reactions and to block hydroxyl groups during oligonucleotide synthesis.
