Description and applications
Magnesium turnings are thin, curled shavings or strips of metallic magnesium produced during machining or cutting of magnesium metal. Because they offer a high surface area-to-volume ratio, they are highly reactive. They are widely used in chemical laboratories—particularly for synthesizing Grignard reagents and organomagnesium compounds—and as a raw material for industrial catalysts.
