Description and applications
Para-tertiary butylphenol (PTBP), or 4-tert-butylphenol, is an organic aromatic compound (C10H14Ocap C sub 10 cap H sub 14 cap O?10?14?) commonly appearing as white, distinct-smelling, crystalline flakes or pellets. It is primarily used to produce phenolic resins, epoxy resin hardeners, and polycarbonate resins. PTBP is also used in fragrances and as an adhesive, though it is toxic to aquatic life and a skin sensitizer.
