Description and applications
Methyl red is a pH indicator. It is a red to yellow dye used to measure pH levels in aqueous solutions. Methyl red changes color from red at a pH below 4.4 to yellow at a pH above 6.2, making it useful in titrations and various analytical applications. It is commonly used in microbiological tests, such as the methyl red test for bacterial fermentation in the IMViC series. Additionally, methyl red is employed in some industrial processes and as a dye in certain products. Due to its color change range, it is valuable for precise pH monitoring.
