Description and applications
Monobutyl Tin Oxide (MBTO) is an amorphous white solid used as a neutral catalyst in esterification and transesterification reactions, particularly for producing saturated and unsaturated polyester resins for coatings and plasticizers. It accelerates reaction rates, improves product quality (like color), and is hydrolytically stable, meaning water produced during the reaction does not deactivate it. MBTO is also used as an additive in certain plastics and as a precursor in other chemical processes.
